Take a walk alongside writer and artist Christine Sullivan as she charts a full year of intimate encounters with two of nature's greatest wonders she's long adored - birds and trees. These heartwarming communions, captured through observational drawings and poetic writings, become ruminations on our own human seasons - aging, nesting, growth, renewal, decline - prompting us to ponder our connections with ourselves, the seasons, and the great outdoors.
Here’s a snippet from the introduction, and images of a few interior pages are shown below:
'There are stirrings in nature that whisper the air. The stirrings of a band of jays or flock of swallows in a tall maple. The stirring flicker of red feathers rousing the underbrush. A chickadee chipping away on a nearby twig. Even the metronomic tapping of a pileated woodpecker seems to summon us. Stirrings that alert us. Stirrings that carry us from the town to the forest. We stir, too, as people. Our minds are always stirring, as are our hearts. Our thoughts and observations stir up emotions, stirring within us, stirring us to action. Stirrings of all such sorts have occupied me over the past year, and they’ve stirred me to make this book of stirrings as writings, and stirrings as drawings.'

FRONT COVER
THIN AIR is a book I wrote in memory of my close friend, Lori McCall. It captures several memorable and often humorous times we spent traveling together across the Finger Lakes and Adirondack regions of New York State as well as on Cape Cod to paint plein air. Lori was an exceptional plein air painter and was very patient with me the studio painter. Lori passed of breast cancer in 2019 and proceeds from the sale of this book were donated to the hospice center of Syracuse, who took exceptional care of her during her final journey.
